Isaac's Addition: Week 1

The room as it is now...there is barely room between the beds..
 Before..
 Day 1

 Day 2

 Day 3
 Day 4

Isaac and Aaron come with tons of accessories...walkers, wheelchairs, oxygen tanks, supplies, and bath chairs. Sharing a small bedroom between them has been a challenge to say the least. Especially when Issac often has a nurse helpign to care for him as well. Our 1953 home was not built with spaciousness in mind..but this home has met our needs in so many unexpected and really amazing ways! This house has been adapted little by little to accomodate the needs of our children and we have decided to add on to one of our bedrooms.  Aaron and Isaac will have a really large bedroom once it is all done. And as plans have a way of growing, ours have grown to include an expansion to McKenna's bedroom. Her room is underneath the new room addition and since she will be living with us indefinitely, it will be really nice for her to have a little of her own living space beyond just a bedroom. The addition will be a 13x13 addition to a small existing bedroom. We are going to add cabinets to store supplies and add a sink for washing equipment.

Work began on Monday..and by Thursday huge progress has already been made! The foundation, cement blocks, and  wood floor for the second level are all laid. Things are going very fast.

I still can't fully imagine the finished space...we are planning on tiling the floor with a hospital grade tile and eventually add a track system to assist with transfers from bed to wheelchair. We are excited to see the progress on the addition!

We are thinking about adding IKEA cabinets to store supplies etc...they seem so customizable and functional (and low cost!) is what we are most concerned about. We tried to follow up some leads on used cabinetry (on craigslist, etc...) but nothing has panned out..and we are trying to maximize our space by having only what is very functional in the space..because once we put two hospital type beds, a sink and cabinets, a desk and chair, a rocking chair to hold Isaac and some therapy equipment in the room..it won't seem so big anymore! Does anyone have IKEA cabinets and if so, what do you think about them?
